“The artist was just fantastic,” resident Jerry Smith said. “Hearing someone sing Christmas carols is such a great way to connect and feel like part of the community, which is more important now than ever.”

Music has many health benefits, especially for seniors. According to Time, it can lower stress levels, improve blood flow and even ease pain. Music also is used to treat memory care residents and is proven to help those recovering from a stroke or brain injury with recall and speech.

“Everything we do here has a purpose: to enhance the independence and quality of life for each and every one of our residents, in all service lines,” said Al Ewing, marketing director. “The concert was the perfect way to get everyone involved and active this holiday season.”

Allerton House hosts events throughout the year to keep seniors connected to their passions and the local community, but residents seem to enjoy the holiday activities the most. T-shirt design classes, luncheons, and baking workshops continue to light the decked-out halls of the senior facility with joy and laughter.

“Simply put, Allerton House is my home,” resident Jennie Ciccolo said. “I used to host holiday celebrations with my family, so being in a place where both my family and my friends can participate and there is still so much attention paid to helping us celebrate this time of year is amazing.”
